We started as a way to search Canvas faster, and the name said exactly that. It doesn't anymore. The name was constantly mistaken for an official Canvas product, or for a feature of one — and we are neither. Meanwhile the work outgrew the name: Brightspace, PDFs and scanned pages, cited answers from your own materials, study plans, and a two-way handoff to your iPad. Calling all of that Canvascope had started to describe about a quarter of it.
So we're Scope. It's shorter, it's easier to say out loud, and it points at what the product actually does: it gives you the whole picture of your semester and lets you look closely at any part of it. The mark stays — it was always an aperture.
The Chrome extension is now Scope for Canvas, which keeps the useful half of the old name where it's genuinely informative: on the thing that works inside your LMS. Lectra, DropBridge, and Agent Workspace keep their names.
Nothing about this asks anything of you:
- The extension you already installed keeps working and updates itself. You don't need to reinstall it.
- Your courses, your local index, your notes, and your plans are untouched.
- Your account, sign-in, and Lectra pairing carry over as they are.
- Old links still work — bookmarks and shared pages redirect to the new ones.
- Nothing about pricing changed. Scope for Canvas is still free.
You'll see the old name in a few places for a while — the Chrome Web Store listing, some screenshots, the occasional email signature — and we'll clear those as we go. If you spot one that matters, tell us. Otherwise, nothing to do. Same software you were using yesterday, with a name that finally fits it.
