Lectra Notes 9.0 is on the App Store as of today. The biggest change is how you switch tools. Press and hold with two fingers anywhere on the page and a ring of tools opens around where your fingers landed, so going from pen to highlighter halfway down a page no longer means a trip to the dock and back.
We chose that gesture because it was the last one the editor had free. One finger draws or opens the context menu, a two-finger tap undoes, three fingers redo, and a double tap fits the page, and we were not willing to take any of those away to make room for a shortcut. The wheel shows the same tools as the dock, in the same order and with the same icons, so there is nothing new to learn. If you open it by accident, a tap anywhere outside the ring closes it.
The dock itself got quieter. It used to be a row of bordered, tinted squares sitting inside a bordered, tinted capsule, which was two layers of decoration around one row of tools. Now each tool is just its icon, and the only thing with an outline is the tool you are holding. The ink and weight choices scroll sideways inside the dock, and they look smaller than before, but every one of them is still a full-size touch target.
Documents sent from Scope now open properly the first time. A document shows up in your library a second or two before its pages finish downloading, and if you tapped it in that gap Lectra used to open a panel saying the pages were not on this iPad. A tap now waits for the pages and then opens the document.
Also in this build:
- The top bar and the floating tool picker were rebuilt, and the paper setup sheet was redesigned.
- The sheet for moving documents between folders was reworked.
- You can name a folder Imported again. The name was reserved for an old system folder that no longer exists, so it was blocking an ordinary folder name for no reason.
- While a lecture is recording, the recording pill no longer sits on top of the page number, the hints, and the pages rail. They move up by exactly the height of the pill.
