Scope for Canvas 11.0.10 is on the Chrome Web Store as of today. It follows 11.0.8 from two days earlier. Here is what the two of them changed.
A new install now opens a page that says Scope is ready and gives you one button. Scope cannot find anything until you open your school's Canvas once, and a fresh install does not know which school that is. The button opens a Canvas tab you already have, or your school's Canvas if Scope can tell from your account, or Canvas's own find-your-school page if it cannot.
Errors now read as a few calm sentences instead of whatever the browser or network reported. If sending a PDF to Lectra fails while you are offline, Scope says you are offline and that your PDF is still here. If something else goes wrong, it says nothing was changed and to try again in a moment. The same goes for asking a question, bringing in a course, and attaching a file from Lectra on Gradescope.
Settings has a control to clear Scope's data from this browser, as our privacy policy describes.
11.0.10 fixes a slowdown some of you may have felt without knowing the cause. While Scope read the text out of a course's PDFs, every save was announced to every open Canvas tab, and on a big course that could keep Chrome noticeably busy. Scope now keeps that text in its own storage, where saving it is invisible to your other tabs.
Also in these builds:
- The search bar works properly with screen readers: it is announced as a dialog, and status changes are read out.
- The agenda's filters work: the type chips filter, a course filter shows a pill you can clear, and dismissing an overdue item updates the count.
- Searching the text inside images has been removed. Text inside PDFs is still searchable.
