Scope 11.0.6: your search index stays on your computer, and the side panel is gone

The search was already local. Now the copy is too.

Scope for Canvas 11.0.6 is on the Chrome Web Store as of today. The change that matters most is one you will not see.

Scope builds its index of your courses, meaning assignments, pages, files, and announcements, on your computer, and search has always run there. But earlier versions also saved a copy of that index to your Scope account after each scan and each sign-in. Nothing read it back for search, and keeping it meant holding your course list on a server for no good reason. 11.0.6 stops sending it.

Two things still go through your account, because they have to. PDFs you send to Lectra travel that way, since that is how they reach your iPad, and the small set of search preferences you tune follows you between browsers. Older versions already uploaded copies of the index. We deleted all of them on 12 October 2026. An install that has not updated yet may upload its copy again until it does, and we will clear those as well.

The side panel is gone. Everything it did, the assistant, the daily briefing, and opening a set of results, now lives in the search bar you already use: press Cmd+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K elsewhere. One place to look is easier to learn than two that half overlap. When you open a set of results together, Scope can group them into a named tab group, if you allow it.

Search also stays smooth while you type. Building the index and ranking results now happen in the background, so a large course no longer makes the search bar stutter, and a result from an older query cannot be opened by mistake after you have typed something new.

Last, Scope no longer runs on your school's sign-in and sign-out pages. It had no reason to be there.
